It’s the last W.I.F. before the Royal Rumble. Shall we talk a look at each match? Well, too bad, that’s what we’re doing.
By the way, is this not the creepiest poster for a PPV?
I’ve had nightmares about being eaten alive by bugs that weren’t as creepy as that poster. Jeez.
CM Punk (c) vs Dolph Ziggler – WWE Championship Match -
Despite the fact that that whole purpose of this match is to push the Punk/John Lauranitis feud, it’s still nice to see Dolph Ziggler in the main of event of one of WWE’s major PPVs. Last night’s Raw ended with the reveal that Johnny Ace’s job as Raw GM is up for review this following Monday. Add to that the fact that Ziggler may be ready for the main event, but he’s hardly ready to carry the title, and you can pretty much guess where this is going. Still, one of the best parts of being a wrestling fan is being wrong, so we’ll see what happens.
Daniel Bryan (c) vs Big Show vs Mark Henry – Steel Cage match for World Heavyweight Championship
Considering that the World Heavyweight Championship is the Intercontinental title of World Championships, this match could go in any number of ways. Frankly, I’m seeing Henry winning the title, Show and Bryan continuing their feud and Randy Orton moving on again to challenging the man who took his title from him in the first place. More on him in a bit.
John Cena vs Kane
People, especially those of us who write about wrestling on the Internet who like to think we know what we’re talking about, have been predicting a heel turn for John Cena – well, for years now, but mostly since after Wrestlemania last year. If this whole Kane-as-Palpatine “Join the dark side” thing is the way WWE plans to do it before Wrestlemania XXVIII, my guess this is where it’s really going to start. They need to start rebuilding hype for his match with that big, dumb stupid jerk The Rock (who also smells bad and is ugly and is Managing Editor Justin Becker’s – who spent all day bragging to me about how he’s going to Wrestlemania – favorite wrestler) and it’s kind of hard to do that and have him feud with Kane. This will probably end in a no contest with Eve getting involved because why not do something stupid here?
30-Man Royal Rumble Match
As I write this, this Friday’s Smackdown tapings have yet to happen, but my guess is Randy Orton not only will have returned but will announce he’s going to be in the Rumble match itself. There’s already a number of stories being woven into the match. The Miz’s loss at Raw on Monday makes him the first entrant on Sunday, but chances are they’ll just use the Rumble as a way to further his program with R-Truth. Mick Foley has been announced as a participant but don’t expect for a moment he’ll make it particularly far. Chris Jericho will also be in the match, as he’s promised us “the end of the world as we know it”. I still don’t expect him to win.
My prediction: Orton wins the Rumble and goes on to face Mark Henry at Wrestlemania. I know, I know. I wanted to see Bryan in the main event, too. Don’t count on it.
I guess next Tuesday we’ll see if I was right or not.
